I am a full-time nomad of 6 years traveling in a Chevy Express conversion. I was unhappy with my previous 5 gallon camping toilet. I was in desperate need of change and then I found the DBY. It was love at first sight, I knew purchasing this kit would solve my DIY needs. The toilet design is simple, yet functional. The overall assembly was quick - it took 5 minutes to install the toilet seat to the lid and about two hours to complete the entire box. I ended up purchasing a plastic Kohler toilet seat to keep things light weight. The foam pieces to prop up the lid were a nice touch! I haven’t experienced any major issues with odor from solid waste, but the urine seal inlet worked too well and liquids did not go down smoothly. Life was messy until I put a small stick inside to help liquids flow into the urine canister. Four months later everything is operating smoothly. Cleaning the toilet is easy - I clean it everyday for best hygiene practices in our tiny living space. Disposing of both liquid and solid waste is simple and hassle-free. I am beyond thrilled with this purchase and would buy another for any future builds!

I've been using the compost toilet I recently purchased online, and I couldn't be happier with my choice! One of the standout features is the large opening, which makes it incredibly comfortable and convenient to use. The Kohler seat truly feels like home, providing the same comfort and familiarity as a traditional toilet seat while I was sitting in my Camper Van. Also, the fan helps the toilet odor-free. Cleaning was easy, I can lift the container from the box. I certainly recommend this product who needs comfort and cleaniness when you are on the road.

Had an issue due to rough handling in transit; the seller provided prompt and thorough troubleshooting support.
Kit included dimensions for box, which was easy to knock together. You do want to ensure everything is situated properly relative to the diverter.
Have been using a couple weeks and you'd never know we don't have a "normal" toilet!

Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Would be nice if the diameter of the hose was noted on the website, so you can know what it will attach to.

The composting agents, coco coir, work well. I sprinkle them over my solid waste and give the bag a lil shake just for fun. No smell that I can tell.

Exactly what I needed. Works quite well. No smell. I’m about 200 lb. Feel pretty sturdy to me. It should last quit some time.
I have bought some other carpentry stuff from Etsy. They just cut it with a laser cutter. Leaving all the rough edges. But not this toilet. Nice and clean. Ready to paint. I would recommend it.

The parts to the DBY Compost DIY Toilet purchased from K-Buildshop are quite ingenious.

I built the box and assembled all of the parts but have not used the finished toilet (my tiny house is snowed in).

Was glad they included extra hinge screws because I dropped one and could not find it.

When putting it all together, there are times when a little ingenuity has to be used to get it all to work. For example, I had to several pieces of 1x3 when installing the solids container to get it level and to keep it centered under the solids opening...no problem.

A few suggestions:
- include an option to purchase the system without a fan...I have a tiny house that has no electricity (the toilet is in an outhouse)
- include a solid waste container in the package as I had a hard time finding a container that would fit.

Outside of that everything looks good and the delivery speed was great. ----TML

VERY practical toilet design
Every functions work perfectly! At the first time I used it, I was worried if it was too complicated, but turns out it is really convenient and easy to use. Especially the layered design of the toilet seat, which is also good for cleaning because every part of the toilet can be taken out for cleaning individually. And other reason I'm very happy with it is that it totally has no odor at all. Excellent design and customer service.
